LIVES & WORKS: NORFOLK, UK
Jamie Hawkins is a self-taught abstract expressionist, whose work stems from her experience of sexual assault as an 18 year old and the ensuing mental health issues that followed, including PTSD.
Her work exists to give vent to emotions too powerful to put into words and to provide hope and comfort for those who’ve experienced either sexual assault, or struggled with mental health.
Since starting painting in 2018, Hawkins’ work has been shown on screen at The Saatchi Gallery in London, sold to collectors in the UK, US and Spain, been featured in over a dozen media outlets and in October ’19 received her first solo exhibition after only 11 months of painting.
Currently on public display at three different locations in her native Norfolk, 2020 will see Hawkins hold her second solo exhibition, as well as have a large scale installation piece go on public display at the Underground Gallery in Norwich, along with various other projects and events.
The process and technique by which Jamie creates her work is both highly kinetic and deeply personal. Always painting alone, the creation of each piece can often leave the artist bed-ridden for days.
